For the law against adultery see
Lev.20:10 &
Deut.22:22-27. There is no law against polygyny and polygyny is
not adultery.
Here is the law to be observed after sexual intercourse between a man
and a maid. This is not a law against polygyny or adultery.
Exo 22:16
And if a man lures a virgin who is not promised, and lies with
her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife.
Exo
22:17
If her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money
according to the dowry of virgins.
This verse does not talk about "sex
before marriage", or adultery, it gives rules for the man who entices a
maid. Intimacy is an act of marriage and marriage is ruled in this verse
or the price of marriage. Certainly no condemnation for the maid or the
man is found in the Word of God here but it will be found in some
families and denominational systems.
Here is a corresponding passage;
Deu
22:28
If a man finds a girl, a virgin not engaged, and lays hold on
her, and lies with her, and they are found,
Deu
22:29
then the man who lay with her shall give to the girl's father fifty
shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife. Because he has humbled
her, he may not put her away all his days.
While we don't pay dowries today the mind of God in the matter of
intimacy between men and virgins and or maids not betrothed is clear. No
doubt we will be called loose or amoral for showing these texts to the
Christian community but truth needs to be promoted, not tradition.
