Any
Christian man considering a wife or a plural family should review the
Word regarding their role and responsibilities.
Contrary to the world's view, Scriptural marriage is not total equality between the
sexes, husband and wife have different roles. The Word of God is very
clear; the husband is the head of the wife;
1Co 11:3 ..the
head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and
the head of Christ is God.
Eph 5:23
For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of
the church; and He is the Savior of the body.
The husband is
not the head to dominate but is head “even as Christ”. From
Christ there is nourishment and growth through the body and husbands must see how
essential their office is;
Eph 4:15-16
.. the Head, even Christ; from whom the whole body, fitted together and
compacted by that which every joint supplies, according to the effectual
working in the measure of each part, producing the growth of the body to
the edifying of itself in love.
Paul varies
this in Colossians, the last phrase here poignant;
Col 2:19...
the Head, from whom all the body, having been supplied through the
joints and bands, and having been joined together, will grow..the growth
of God.
Men
considering marriage must be aware that they are responsible for the
spiritual security and development of their wives and families. If any family is in disarray, loveless, and going backwards in the “growth of
God”, then husbands need serious self examination. If any husband has
not maintained a solid spiritual tone in his family then any thought of
expansion should be discarded.
