When
using the human body as another analogy for the supernatural gifts, the
apostle Paul asked one or two insightful questions with only one
conclusion apparent;
1Co 12:15
If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body;
is it therefore not of the body?
1Co 12:17-18
If all the body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If all hearing,
where would be the smelling? But now God has set the members, each one
of them, in the body as it has pleased Him.
It can
not be overemphasized that “God has set, as it pleased Him”.
Men did not
declare themselves the head and demand that wives submit. It is how God
has set and how it pleased Him. In marriage the husband and wife
together make a functioning unit. That husband who fails as the head
to bring spiritual depth to the home which includes emotional security
to the wife, brings havoc to the marriage, likewise that wife who does not submit and
love her head brings pain and suffering to the family; where one fails
all suffer.
When Christians ignore God’s order and try man’s order in
marriage there is pain and divorce rates climb.
Titus 2:3-5 declares that wives should love
their children ensuring they grow up in a caring, accepting environment
where affection is given and received. In this environment of love
husbands can easily raise their children in the respect and warnings of
the Lord (Eph.6:4) which is not the wives'
function. Husbands and wives work together.
Husbands and wives have been set in marriage as it has pleased our God,
the husband and the wife in harmony showing forth His pleasure. Let us
please Him in return by rejoicing and giving thanks, submitting to Him,
for His one will is “proper, pleasing and perfect” (Roms.12:2).
