So men ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord loves the church. Eph 5:28-29
Husbands should meditate upon these two verses regularly;
1Co 11:3 ..the
head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and
the head of Christ is God.
Eph 5:23 For
the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the
church; and He is the Savior of the body.
Husbands who
desire families that are Christ honoring and abounding in love and peace
will recognize their need to walk closely with the Lord Christ. The
divine order is God, Christ, husbands then wives and only husbands adhering to
their Head and His Word (Col.3:16) will
provide the appropriate headship wives can honor and to which they will
readily and joyfully submit. If our wives only submit by
command then we are failing and suffering because of it. Christ commands but He lead by example;
Eph 5:25
Husbands,
love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself
for it,...
How did
Christ love? By submission unto death even the death of the cross. Christ our Head
laid aside all rights and prerogatives;
Phi 2:5-8
For let this mind be in you which was
also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, thought it not
robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation,
and took upon Himself
the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. And being
found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient unto
death, even the death of the cross.
Has not God
winked at us husbands in Eph 5:29? We love and
willingly submit to Christ because He first loved us and the weight of
“even as” gives promise to husbands of abounding joy and comfort beyond
their wildest dreams.
