The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband. And likewise also the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife.. 1Cor.7:4

A maniac is one who is either insane, has an excessive and insatiable desire for something or is wildly irresponsible. One could be a sports maniac, living and breathing the chosen sport 24/7. There are still a few Christians who level this claim against polygynists who, for reasons known only to themselves, see those who engage in polygynist marriages as being people who simply marry to satisfy heightened sexual desires. Perhaps by taking this high moral ground they affirm that they do not marry for sex, or that monogamous marriage is normal sex and only polygynous marriage is insanely excessive?
Obviously Moses, Abraham, Jacob and many
other saints were
sex maniacs, but they wouldn't dare level this charge against
God who had two wives in a figure.
This stand begs the
question,
since when was frequency of intimacy a
standard by which normal or Godly marriage was judged? Any partner in a
monogamous marriage could have an insatiable appetite for intimacy, but
would not be called a maniac because they are respectably behind the
wall of monogamy. |
