When a
Christian woman marries she places herself under the headship of her husband
(Col.3:18).
Why would she marry unto
submission? The world is aghast at this antiquated “inequality” but as
the Word tells us;
Pro 14:12-13
There is a way which seems right to a
man, but the end of it is the ways of death. Even in laughter the heart
is sorrowful, and the end of that joy is heaviness.
The end of the
worldly way is found in the divorce statistics prevalent in Christian
circles. A Christian woman will marry “in the Lord” to a proven
Christian who, knowing his responsibilities, will “save” her as is
strongly suggested in our Ephesians passage;
Eph 5:22-23
Wives, submit yourselves to your own
husband (head)...even as Christ is
the head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.
Christ
is "the Saviour of the Body” in the context of wives submitting to
husbands. A Christian woman would ask how the godly husband could “save”
her when her redemption was purchased so long ago. Thayer’s definition
is suggestive; “sōtēr
= saviour, deliverer, preserver”. To preserve, that is to conserve,
protect, defend, care for, with the goal of a glorious presentation
“even as Christ”;
Eph 5:27
that He might present it to Himself as
the glorious church, without spot or wrinkle or any such things, but
that it should be holy and without blemish.
The benefits
for the Christian woman desiring to marry are for the present obvious
but in that glorious day the “well done thou good and faithful servant”
and the chance to reign are also in view. (2Tim.2:10-13).
A Godly husband few can find; polygamy is an option in today’s
Christians circles where godly men are in diminishing supply.
